Smuggling causing huge loss to the national exchequer: Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman

ISLAMABAD, Sep 24 (SABAH): Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman while presiding over a meeting of the committee has observed that smuggling is causing huge loss to the national exchequer and there is a dire need to take strict action against the menace. He also pointed out the alleged involvement of officials of FBR in patronising smuggling and directed the FIA to prepare itself for curtailing the phenomenon of smuggling. He further remarked that data is being collected to formally task FIA with the gigantic task.

The committee met at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman to consider a number of legislative Bills moved by Senators Fawzia Arshad, Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan and Mohsin Aziz. The committee was also briefed in detail about the updated status of the inquiry conducted by FIA against a legal assistant (WWB) and the steps taken by the Ministry of interior and police against the miscreants hiding in Sanghar area.

Senators Fawzia Arshad and Senator Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan apprised the committee about their respective amendment bills while highlighting the significance and purpose behind introducing the amendments. Chairman of the committee observed that the Bills introduced by both the senators carry huge importance and there is need to have a threadbare discussion on different aspects from all the stakeholders.

The committee directed the concerned ministry to submit a comprehensive report on the amendments introduced by Senators Fawzia Arshad and Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan.

The committee also directed the police authorities of Sindh specially Sanghar to conduct an impartial inquiry into the recent unfortunate incident which took place between two parties belonging to the same clan. Police department informed the committee about the progress on the case.

The meeting was attended by Senators Fawzia Arshad, Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan, Jam Saifullah Khan and Naseema Ehsan.

Senior officers of the ministry of interior, police department Sindh and other relevant authorities were also present during the meeting.
