PM Shehbaz Sharif attends the inaugural session of UNGA in New York

NEW YORK, Sep 24 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif attended the inaugural session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

Federal Ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Attaullah Tarar Advocate, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Munir Akram were also accompanying the Prime Minister at the inaugural session. 

Earlier Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Monday to attend the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) 79th session during his five-day official visit to the United States. He is scheduled to address the UNGA on Friday.

In his address, the premier will highlight Pakistan’s perspective on a range of international and regional issues of concern, including the Kashmir dispute and Palestine issue.

PM Shehbaz Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism and support for the role of the United Nations in fostering global peace, security and prosperity.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, he is scheduled to attend several high-level meetings, including discussions on existential threats posed by sea level rise and the UN Security Council’s open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’.

He will hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders and call on UN Secretary-General António Guterres as well. He will also meet World Bank President Ajay Banga and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

More than 130 heads of state and governments from across the world will attend the UNGA session.
