JKSDMI advocates for Kashmiri rights at Labour Party conference 2024

LIVERPOOL, Sep 22 (SABAH): The Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement International (JKSDMI), led by former Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Yasmine Dar, Chairperson of the International Lobby on Kashmir, launched a series of high-profile meetings at the Labour Party Annual Conference 2024 in Liverpool. The team, which also included Chairman of the JKSDMI Youth Wing Zeshan Araf and Professor Tamoor Shafique, Secretary of the International Lobby on Kashmir, engaged with key figures from the British government on behalf of the suffering people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

On the first day of the conference, the JKSDMI delegation had productive meetings with prominent members of the British government, including British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer MP, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP, and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves MP. During these engagements, the JKSDMI team highlighted the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and urged for continued support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

In addition to these key leaders, the JKSDMI team also met with other significant figures including Business Minister Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour Party Chairperson Ellie Reeves MP, Under Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Andrew Gwynne MP, as well as Paula Barker MP, Oliver Ryan MP, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP, and David Williams MP.

The meetings provided an opportunity for the JKSDMI representatives to not only congratulate these leaders on their government roles but also to emphasize the urgent need to advocate for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who continue to face oppression under Indian occupation.

As part of their continued efforts, the JKSDMI team is set to participate in further activities and discussions during the four-day conference in Liverpool, which runs until 25th September. The delegation’s mission is clear: to ensure that the voice of the Kashmiri people is heard at the highest levels of the British government and to seek international action to bring an end to the human rights abuses in the region.

Other dignitaries who participated in these important discussions included Andrew Western MP, Minister for Transformation, Connor Rand MP, Youth Representative, Adam Jogee MP, Gareth Snell MP, and Tanmanjeet Singh MP.

JKSDMI continues to work tirelessly to raise international awareness of the plight of the Kashmiri people and to lobby for political solutions to the ongoing crisis. With the support of the Labour Party’s leadership and other government officials, JKSDMI hopes to push forward the agenda for justice and self-determination for Jammu and Kashmir.
