Process of broad-based consultation among political parties regarding constitutional amendments continuing to develop a consensus: Attaullah Tarar
ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (SABAH): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar Advocate has said the process of broad-based consultation among political parties regarding constitutional amendments is continuing to develop a consensus.
Talking to the media in Islamabad on Wednesday, Attaullah Tarar mentioned that having separate constitutional courts from the Supreme Court is an established practice in many countries.
He explained that the sole objective of this separation is to reduce the burden on the apex court, allowing constitutional matters and other cases of citizens to be heard and resolved swiftly through separate platforms.
The Minister stated Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has prepared the draft of the proposed amendments and shared it with political parties for broader consultations to evolve a consensus.
He urged the opposition to refrain from creating ambiguity and making speculations, as this is a matter of Pakistan’s integrity and the Constitution. He said that Pakistan is only country where the cases like 9th May have not been decided. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf did politics on the draft of the constitutional amendment, adding that it is matter of Pakistan’s sovereignty so conspiracies should not be hatched on this matter. He said that broad based consensus is being evolved on the constitutional amendments and more consensus will be evolved on the issue in upcoming days. He said that the role of law minister is appreciable in this regard, adding that the law minister engaged all the political parties and played his regarding the draft of the constitutional amendments.
Attaullah Tarar said that the process of consultations regarding the proposed amendments is being broadened, adding that consultations are also continued with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He said that the consultations are continued on the updated draft and this matter will be taken to logical conclusion soon.
