Senate approves bill to impose imprisonment on unauthorized assembly in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (SABAH): The Senate of Pakistan on Thursday approved the bill of imprisonment for unauthorized assembly in Islamabad. Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over the Senate meeting in which the bill was presented to organize a peaceful assembly at a designated place in Islamabad. Senator Irfan Siddiqui introduced the bill which was opposed by PTI.
PTI Parliamentary party leader Senator Syed Ali Zafar objected to the bill and said that PTI is going to hold a gathering in Islamabad, efforts are being made to stop it. On this, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that we are trying to regulate this thing. Yes, you can hold a gathering wherever you want, we are facilitating you, we have no other aim, we want the rights of millions of people not to be violated. To this, Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the rules have been made by this house, the rules are relaxed since this house came into existence.
Later, the Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Syed Shibli Faraz, expressed his opinion and said that you are misusing your authority, this law will fall on you, even when cricket teams come, the city is surrounded. Because of this bill your malice has become clear. He said that the government should also hold a political gatherings, adding this law is made only to target the PTI gathering , how can the law minister throw dust in our eyes in broad daylight.
He said that a private member cannot present a money bill or a bill to increase the number of judges. How could a private bill to increase the number of judges presented in the House, he said and added the bill of increasing the number of judges only can be presented by the government.
Shibli Faraz said that he was embarrassed in the National Assembly on the bill to increase the number of judges, it was not right to present this private bill from the Senate. There was also a debate in the House when this bill was presented, noted the Chairman Senate. Along with this, Senator Irfan Siddiqui moved a motion for the peaceful assembly and Public Peace Bill 2024 and the House passed the motion by majority vote.
Later, in Islamabad, Public Peace Bill 2024 was passed by majority vote during PTI’s protest.
