At least 11 policemen martyred, seven sustained injuries after kacha bandits attacked their vans with rockets in Rahim Yar Khan

RAHIM YAR KHAN/LAHORE/ISLAMABAD, August 22 (SABAH): At least 11 policemen were martyred and seven sustained injuries after kacha bandits attacked their vans with rockets in a riverine area of Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday.

The horrific attack occurred in the Machka area located in one of Rahim Yar Khan’s riverine areas.

Police officials told the media that two police vans with more than 20 cops were trapped in rainwater in the locality when bandits launched rockets at them.

As a result of the fierce attack, nearly a dozen cops were martyred while seven others were wounded and four went missing, the police added.

Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of police personnel in the Kacha area of Rahim Yar Khan. She extended her condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

The Chief Minister directed that an operation be launched to rescue the missing police personnel and ordered that the injured officers receive the best medical care.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IG CTD, and senior officers have departed for Rahim Yar Khan.

IG Punjab confirmed the martyrdom of nine police personnel so far in a rocket launcher attack on police vehicles in the Kacha area, with reports of several other officers injured.

Meanwhile Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strongly condemned the attack on police vehicles by robbers in Machka, Rahim Yar Khan, which led to the martyrdom of 11 police personnel. Interior Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and paid homage to the martyred police officials. He also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured police personnels.

Mohsin Naqvi extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred police officials, saying that the government stands with them in this hour of grief. He stated that we salute the bravery and sacrifice of martyred police officials.
