Accused of billions of rupees fraud in EOBI dismissed after 11 years

KARACHI, Aug 19 (SABAH): Finance Director Asif Azad, who was named in 9 FIA cases on the charge of financial irregularities worth billions of rupees in the Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), was dismissed from his job after 11 years.

Allegedly corrupt officers of the institution are busy trying to save the sacked officer, who along with other officers of the institution allegedly bribed FIA officials to get favour in FIA cases against him. The current Chairman of EOBI, Khaqan Murtaza, has decided to take departmental action against the dismissed officer after several complaints against him. Notices were pasted at his home in Karachi and Chakwal for recovery of vehicles.

he allegedly corrupt officers of the institution are trying to rescue the dismissed officer, who along with other officers of the institution has been the main source of alleged bribes to FIA officials to get facilities in the FIA cases registered against him. The current Chairman of EOBI, Khaqan Murtaza, has decided to take departmental action against the dismissed officer after several complaints. Due to the fact that the houses of the dismissed officer were locked in Karachi and Chakwal, notices were posted for the return of government vehicles.

On 2024, to decide the fate of accused Asif Azad, there was a personal hearing of his case, during which Deputy Director General Human Resources and Director Investments were also present. The dismissed officer couldn’t give a satisfactory answer to any question. Chairman, in the light of the available records, evidence and inquiry report, has dismissed him from his services.
