Anchor person Hamid Mir files case at IHC against installation of Internet Firewall

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (SABAH): A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court challenging the installation of a firewall and internet disruption, citing a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir submitted the plea through his lawyer, Iman Mazari, seeking protection of basic human rights affected by the firewall.

The petition argues that the firewall installation infringes upon citizens’ right to freedom of expression and access to information. It demands that the court halt the installation process until all stakeholders are consulted and fundamental rights are ensured. Additionally, the petition seeks recognition of internet access as a fundamental human right essential for livelihood.

The respondents named in the petition include the Cabinet Secretary, IT Secretary, Interior Secretary, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Ministry of Human Rights. The plea requests a detailed report from these respondents regarding the firewall installation and its implications.
