Reserved seats judgment contradicts constitutional provisions: Senator Irfan Siddiqui

ISLAMABAD, August 04 (SABAH): The majority judgment of the apex court in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s reserved seats case contradicts provisions of the constitution and is controversial, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui on Sunday.

The PML-N Parliamentary Leader in Senate, Senator Irfan Siddiqui referred to the dissenting notes of the two judges of the larger bench and said that the judgment was beyond jurisdiction.

“It is upto the judges who would one day be appointed Chief Justice to decide whether they can carry the guilt for unconstitutional decision or to reconsider the order,” the senator said in a statement.

He said that the future Chief Justices need to consider whether they would be spending their entire lives providing explanations of the flawed judgment or decide to reconsider the controversial judgment  be vindicated before history.

Irfan Siddiqui said that the dissenting notes of two esteemed judges, the opinions of leading constitutional experts, the recent resolution of the Pakistan Bar Council, and the unanimous decision of the Peshawar High Court’s five-member bench, tell that the majority judgment is in conflict with the constitution.
