Govt running away from our demands, sit-in will continue until the issue of IPPs is resolved: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman

RAWALPINDI, Aug 1 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman while addressing the press conference on the seventh day of Rawalpindi Awami Dharna along with Karachi’s business community said that Jamaat-e-Islami is giving two days to the government.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said if the rulers do not show any progress on the demands then all the discussions will be held in front of the media in the sit-in. He said tell the nation what is your problem in reducing expenses, we will not let anyone try to cheat, if the demands are not accepted, this movement will turn into a movement to bring down the government.

He said we will not act against the constitution, burn or damage something, adding we will not give an opportunity to anyone to spread disorder. He said the rulers should tell why 25% increase in government expenditure has been made. He said cars are driven by ministers, advisors and bureaucracy and the people should bear the petrol money, adding this will not work anymore.

He said stop paying electricity, gas and water money of the bureaucracy from the nation’s taxes, adding corruption of one thousand billion rupees is done per month only in FBR.

Naib Emir Liaqat Baloch, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Dr. Attaur Rahman, Secretary General Ameerul Azim, Secretary Information Qaisar Sharif, business leader Muhammad Kashif Chaudhry, Emir Rawalpindi Arif Shirazi and others were also present on this occasion.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that he welcomes the representatives of the business industry from Karachi to participate in the sit-in. He said the government is trying to tell people that the demands of Jamaat-e-Islami are not feasible, adding Jamaat-e-Islami has also given an action plan to make all the demands feasible, so it cannot be accepted that our demands cannot be accepted.

In the negotiations with the government, it has been asked that the agreements of IPPs should be brought forward, those whose agreements can be revised should be revised, those which are against the law and wrong should be terminated immediately and criminals should be punished.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the people should not bear the prices of expensive electricity and capacity charges. He said the government says that they cannot violate the agreements made with the IMF. To this, he said the rulers have talked about not imposing taxes on education, health and edibles in the agreements of IMF.
