European Union can play an important role for a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue: Ali Raza Syed

ISLAMABAD, June 22 (SABAH): Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) Ali Raza Syed has said that the position of the European Union is very important for the promotion of peace in the world and therefore this influential and powerful organization of 27 European countries can play its effective role for the peaceful solution of the Kashmir issue.

Ali Raza Syed expressed these views while addressing a reception in his honor at a local hotel in Islamabad. Senior journalist and intellectual Mohsin Raza Khan was the host of the ceremony, while Ali Farqan, the journalist of Voice of America, performed a moderator of the function.

Ali Raza Syed told the participants of the event that during the recent election campaign of the European Parliament, we have tried hard to highlight the issue of Kashmir, especially the human rights of the oppressed Kashmiris. We have met the leaders of political parties of various European countries, important European personalities and especially the active candidates participating in the elections and informed them about the background of the Kashmir issue and the current situation of Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir.

He said that the majority of the newly elected members of the European Parliament consist of new faces and along with them many old politicians are also in the Parliament. Chairman Kashmir Council EU said that we have told the leaders of various European circles and political parties that the Kashmir issue is a globally recognized issue which has been pending for the past seven and a half decades. Also, the situation in Occupied Kashmir is very dire and India has deployed above 800,000 troops there, who are oppressing the people by using black laws.

Ali Raza Syed said that he is trying to make the new members of the European Parliament more aware of the Kashmir issue so that they can raise their voice in support of the oppressed Kashmiris and so that the pressure of the international community on India can be increased in this regard. He said that we are not against the people of India but against the Indian policies and negative attitude towards Jammu and Kashmir and especially the Indian occupation of a large part of Jammu and Kashmir. India had promised Kashmiris their right to self-determination, which has not yet been fulfilled. India has not only illegally occupied a large part of Jammu and Kashmir for a long time, but it is oppressing the Kashmiri people to maintain its illegal occupation. He said that Kashmir Council Europe has started a million signature campaign for the last several years to create awareness about Kashmir in Europe, which has had good effects.

Chairman Kashmir Council EU thanked the people associated with media and social media who are playing an important role to highlight the issue of Kashmir. He thanked the host of the event and the guests who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in the event.

During the ceremony, President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Muhammad Afzal Butt praised the awareness campaign of Kashmir Council EU in Europe and said that under the leadership of Ali Raza Syed, the Kashmir Council Europe has been playing its important role in Europe as it has highlighted the issue of Kashmir and especially the rights of Kashmiris.

He said that Ali Raza Syed’s services for Kashmir in Europe are selfless and devoted, and he is rightly defending the rights of Kashmiris in European institutions including the European Parliament.

The host of the event Mohsin Raza Khan also thanked the chief guest of the event Ali Raza Syed and other participants. He praised the ongoing efforts of Kashmir Council Europe regarding Kashmir issue and said Ali Raza Syed’s services for Kashmir cause in Europe are commendable.
