Syed Yousaf Raza Gilan emphasizes the urgent need for concerted efforts to eradicate child labor & protect the rights of children

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (SABAH): On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, emphasized the urgent need for concerted efforts to eradicate child labor and protect the rights of children.

In his message, the Chairman Senate highlighted the persistent challenge of child labor in developing countries. He noted that child labor is driven by poverty and socio-economic inequalities, which need to be addressed.

“Child labor robs children of their childhood and their right to education,” said Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. “It traps them in a vicious cycle of poverty and exploitation. This is a serious issue that demands our collective resolve and action.”

“Parents, driven by the harsh realities of poverty, often see no choice but to send their children to work,” Chairman Senate remarked. “It is our duty as a society to provide them with alternatives and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.”

He acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders working to address this issue. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between government, civil society and media to curb exploitation and provide children with education and a safe environment.

The Chairman also called on the public to actively participate in the fight against child labor to contribute towards putting up a united front. He urged citizens to report any instances of child labor or abuse to authorities concerned.

“Children are the future of our nation,” he stated. “Their place is in schools, not workplaces. Let us commit to protecting their rights and building a Pakistan where every child can enjoy a safe childhood.”
