Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed announces to plant 100,000 trees in next financial year

KARACHI, June 3 (SABAH): Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed has announced to plant 100,000 trees in Gulshan Iqbal in the next financial year.

Dr. Fawad Ahmed was addressing a press conference regarding World Environment Day in his office. Vice Chairman Ibrahim Siddiqui, Municipal Commissioner Javed Ahmed Kalor, Parks Committee Chairman Asif Abdul Karim, Director Parks Shabahat Ali Khan, Dua Foundation’s Amir Khan and Circle Foundation’s Obaid Hashmi were also present on this occasion. Dr. Fawad Ahmed said that they have promised to make Gulshan clean and green.

He said they restored 14 parks out of thirty eight in the town despite limited financial resources in a short period of time. He noted God willing, we are determined to restore all the remaining parks in the new fiscal year. This year, we intend to plant one lakh trees in the parks, fields, roads and educational institutions of Gulshan Iqbal Town.

Dr. Fawad said that he is not convinced of a few days plantation drive but considers it a permanent task, adding they will plant trees twice a year that is in July, August and February, March this year in a vigorous manner. This work will not be done by the town administration alone, he said and added it will also require the cooperation of KMC, provincial government, private educational institutions and NGOs.

“I am happy that today we are signing an MoU with two well-known NGOs of the city regarding cooperation in plantation.  We will plant a thousand olive trees in the parks of Gulshan Iqbal Town. Olive trees remain green throughout the year, have a long lifespan and require less water,” he added.
