President Asif Ali Zardari to address joint sitting of parliament tomorrow
ISLAMABAD, April 17 (SABAH): President Asif Ali Zardari will address the joint sitting of the parliament tomorrow (Thursday). Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa and other important dignitaries including military leadership have been invited for attended the joint session of the parliament. Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will chair the joint sitting of the parliament. It will be record 7th address of President Asif Ali Zardari to the joint session of the parliament. It will be the first joint session of the parliament after 16th National Assembly of Pakistan coming into existence.
The joint session has been summoned to meet at 4:00 PM. Under Article 56 (3) of the Constitution, the President shall address a joint session of Parliament at the commencement of the parliamentary year after general elections.
This will be President Asif Ali Zardari’s record seventh address to the joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate. During his five-year stint in the Presidency from 2008 to 2013, he had already addressed the parliament six times.
According to the spokesperson of the National Assembly all the arrangements for the joint session of the parliament have been completed. Invitation letters have been issued to chief justice of Pakistan, governors and chief ministers of the provinces, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, three services chiefs, prime minister AJK, governor and chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan, speakers of the provincial assemblies, speaker AJK Legislative Assembly, speaker GB Assembly and foreign diplomats. Special passes have been issued for entering in the parliament house on the occasion of the joint session of the parliament.
