Senate condemns in harshest terms Palestinians slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza; resolution approved in favour of Palestine
ISLAMABAD, March 4 (SABAH): Senate of Pakistan condemned in harshest terms the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and it was stressed to boycott the products of Israel.
Senate session was held with Mirza Muhammad Afridi in the chair. Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi took back his resolution of imposing restriction on social media. Bahramand Khan Tangi’s resolution regarding negatives impacts of social media on youth was in the agenda of the Upper House.
In the meeting of Senate, Bahramand Khan Tangi’s resolution with respect to closing X, Youtube and other social media plate forms were protested. Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi while addressing the House said that it is right of everyone to bring motion or resolution and his resolution was included in the agenda of the House. He said that according to his opinion might be it is justified; anyhow it is a debatable topic. He said might be he has some good thing in his mind.
He further said that he has brought this resolution in the House after consulting with my friends. Afterwards due to protest in the House, Deputy Chairman Senate stopped Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi from delivering speech. To this action, he protested and termed it unjustified. He said he completes his ideal within a minute, adding why are you pressurized by the people and give him an opportunity to talk. After this Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi took his resolution back.
During the Senate meeting, protest was staged against the raid on the house of head of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakazi. Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s senator Shafiq Tareen left the House in protest.
Afterwards, Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan expressing his views said that government institutions eating 458 billion rupees from the tax of the people whereas their performance is zero. The government institutions have failed in facilitating the masses. In Pakistan, capital goes from the poor to the rich, he said. He further said the current model is of snatching bread from the poor and giving all benefits to the well-off. Moreover, Senate approved a resolution in favour of Palestine. The resolution was presented by 10 members of the Senate.
Meanwhile the House transacted private members’ business on Monday. Six bills were passed. These include: “The Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) (Amendment) Bill, 2022”, “The Pakistan Emergency Treatment Coverage Programme Bill, 2023”, “The Pakistan Opportunistic Screening and Treatment of Hypertension Bill, 2023”, “The Islamabad Capital Territory Protection of Breast-Feeding and Child Nutrition Bill, 2023”, “The International Institute of Technology, Culture and Health Sciences Bill, 2024”and “The National Database and Registration Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023.”
Besides, several bills were introduced in the House. The Chair referred the bills to the standing committees concerned.
