Deadline given to 28 members of Senate by ECP to submit their Statement of Assets & Liabilities expires tomorrow


ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (SABAH): The deadline given to 28 members of Senate of Pakistan by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit their Statement of Assets and Liabilities including assets and liabilities of their spouse(s) and dependent children is going to expire tomorrow (Monday).

Those who were required to submit such information to the Election Commission of Pakistan are expected to face suspension of their membership of the Senate of Pakistan on January 16, 2024 as per official announcement of the ECP.

The ECP on January 1, 2024, released the names of the some 28 members of the Senate of Pakistan and they were given 15 days additional time to comply the ECP under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017.  

Those who would suspension upon non-compliance of the ECP deadline, include, Senators Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani PPP, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik PML (N), Shaheen Khalid Butt, Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nayazi, Aon Abbas, Nuzhat Sadiq PML (N), Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Jamot, Mian Raza Rabbani PPP, Imamuddin Shouqeen, Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari (MQM), Taj Haider (PPP), Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Khalida Ateeb, Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin,  Liaqat Khan Tarakai, Hidayatullah Khan, Atta-ur-Rehman, Zeeshan Khanzada, Dr. Sania Nishtar, Dost Muhammad Khan, Gurdeep Singh, Hidayat Ullah, Mohammad Abdul Qadir, Muhammad Qasim, Samina Mumtaz, Saeed Ahmed Hashmi and Danesh Kumar.

Almost all of them, except few, are contesting general elections 2024 and are required to comply with the ECP directives, to save their political future. The ECP is expected to announce the names of those who have submitted their Statement of Assets and Liabilities including assets and liabilities of their spouse(s) and dependent children, till the deadline of tomorrow (Monday).

According to ECP, Members of the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies were required to submit to the Election Commission by 31st December, 2023, a copy of Statement of Assets and Liabilities including assets and liabilities of their spouse(s) and dependent children as on the preceding thirtieth day of June on Form-B which is a mandatory requirement under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017.

Members of the Senate, as per detail attached have not yet complied with afore-stated legal provision and are hereby informed through this Press Release that they shall submit their Statements of Assets and Liabilities by 15th January, 2024 during office hours failing which their membership shall be suspended on 16th January, 2024 by the Election Commission of Pakistan in accordance with Section 137 (3) of the Elections Act, 2017. The case of Ex-Members of Senate, National

Assembly and Provincial Assemblies of the Sindh and Balochistan whose Statements of Assets and Liabilities are not received by 15th January, 2024, shall be placed before the Commission for appropriate orders.
