SC to conduct hearing on presidential reference against death sentence of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto tomorrow


ISLAMABAD, Jan 7 (SABAH): The Supreme Court of Pakistan would conduct hearing on presidential reference tomorrow (Monday) filed by former President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari under Article 186 of the Constitution to revisit the death sentence of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

A nine-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Amin-Ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Musarrat Hilali will conduct hearing of the case.

The hearing would be initiated on 11:30 AM. The live converge of the case would be given on the website of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. About 12 years ago, former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had conducted hearing of the case on November 12, 2012. During the previous hearing conducted on 12th December 2023, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah had raised a number of questions on maintainability of the presidential reference.
