Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar says an interim govt has successfully achieved the tax collection target & upcoming govts can build on this success
LAHORE, Jan 02 (SABAH): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has emphasized the need to enhance tax collection to ensure quality education, welfare, and other civic facilities for the general public.
Interacting with students at Beaconhouse National University, Lahore on Tuesday, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated that an interim government has successfully achieved the tax collection target, and upcoming governments can build on this success.
In response to a question about the burning of crops exacerbating climate change in Pakistan, the Prime Minister stressed the need for structural reforms at the enforcement level to address such irregularities.
Replying to a query about banning New Year festivities in solidarity with the people of Palestine, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar explained that Pakistan distances itself from fireworks and other celebrations to highlight the ongoing Israeli oppression in Gaza. He emphasized Pakistan’s consistent voice on the grave human rights situation in Palestine at global fora and called for the establishment of a human corridor to provide timely assistance to the people of Palestine.
Regarding the use of water cannons against Baloch protesters in Islamabad, the Prime Minister acknowledged their right to protest but emphasized that it should be within the limits of the law. He clarified that water cannons were used when some protesters pelted stones at law enforcers, adding that all detained protesters have been released. He highlighted that protesting women in Islamabad are staging a sit-in with complete freedom.
Responding to a question, the Prime Minister stated that the state will not tolerate entities or individuals resorting to violence, and such elements will be met with an appropriate administrative response from the state, as the protection of innocent and unarmed people’s rights is the prime responsibility of the state.
