MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 11 (SABAH): As the world commemorated the International Human Rights Day on Sunday, voices converge at the forefront of advocacy for Kashmir, particularly addressing the critical situation under Indian occupation.
Institute of Dialogue, Development and Diplomatic Studies held a seminar at a local hotel in Muzaffarabad served as a platform to forecast the trajectory for Kashmir’s human rights. Distinguished speakers, including former chief justice Manzoor Geelani, Secretary of Education Syed Saleem Gardezi, Professor Dr. Mehmood from AJK University, Ms Naila representing both media and the UN, and Dr. Waleed Rasool, Director of IDDDs, illuminated the potential pathways toward restoring human rights in the region. Anticipating the future, the discussions underscored pivotal insights: The unification under the Pakistani flag was advocated as a potential solution to mitigate human rights violations in Kashmir. Emphasizing the nexus between human rights defense and a strong Pakistan with mass support. Citing the precedent of Article-99 usage by the UN Secretary-General in Palestine, offering a glimmer of hope and highlighting instances where the US faced isolation. Recognizing the influential role of youth, stressing the necessity of a unified voice in addressing the crisis and empowering themselves through education and logical reasoning.
The importance of meticulous documentation for UNHRC cases was underscored, particularly in the context of youth empowerment and engagement. Addressing specifics, insights into India’s Article 370 existence across ten states and protective measures in certain provinces were highlighted, prompting the youth to delve into case studies and actively engage with the UN.
The seminar, projecting forward, aimed to catalyze proactive measures, forecasting a vision where Kashmir’s human rights are defended through unity, international engagement, and the empowered voices of the youth. This foresight lays the groundwork for concerted efforts to address and rectify the longstanding human rights crisis in the region.
