IHC directs MoFa for taking steps for a meeting of Dr. Fowzia with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui without glass wall barrier
ISLAMABAD, Dec 07 (SABAH): An urgent hearing case was filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday by Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui seeking directives to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to take steps for arranging a contact meeting of Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui with her jailed sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui without the barrier of a glass wall between them.
Advocate Imran Shafique of the petitioner told media outside the IHC premises that the honorable court today issued the directives of the MoFA to write to the US administration as per law and seek arrangements for a contact meeting of Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui with her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui in jail without a glass wall or other barrier between them. The court also issued directives that the MoFA should protest with the US government as per law about this issue. However, the court said that the US jail rules are governed as per the US laws and only the US courts have jurisdiction on that matter.
However, Jamaat-e-Islami JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan talking to the media on the occasion said that it is a shame for the state of Pakistan that Dr. Aafia has been sexually abused in the US jail for multiple times and the government of Pakistan should protest on this issue with the US government on government level. He said the government of Pakistan should also raise this issue as per the international laws.
He said he had applied for a US visa through MoFA to meet Dr. Aafia in jail but he is yet to be issued a US visa for this purpose. He said he would visit the US and meet Aafia when granted the required visa.
He said that previous Pakistani governments, both democratic and military, have failed to deliver on the issue of Aafia Siddiqui. He requested the present caretaker government to raise Dr. Aafia Siddiqui issue with US government and get ended her sexual abuse in the US prison and seek her urgent repartition.
