Hafiz Naeemur Rehman calls off sit-in in Karachi after successful talks with Sindh Govt on 2021 LG Act


KARACHI, Jan 28 (SABAH): The negotiations between the Sindh government and Jamaat-e-Islami have succeeded on the Local Government Law, after which the JI has called off the sit-in being staged in front of the Sindh Assembly building from last 29 days.

The Sindh government delegation headed by Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain reached in the sit-in at 1:45 AM at night. Both parties signed the written agreement, which was read out by Nasir Hussain Shah in front of the participants of the sit-in.

The announcement to end the 29-day long sit-in was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

Talking to the media, Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that PPP and Jamaat-e-Islami have agreed to empower the mayor of Karachi. The two sides also agreed on the establishment of the Provincial Finance Commission. The mayor and town chairmen will be members of the commission.

The two sides also reached an agreement, according to which the mayor will head the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board while educational institutions and hospitals will be handed over to the Local Bodies.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman got approval of the agreement from the participants of the sit-in. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also withdrawn the call of staging sit-ins on different roads of Karachi announced for Friday.

On the occasion Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the Sindh government has accepted our important demands, adding that we carried out peaceful struggle and did not carryout point scoring. He said that now the mayor Karachi will be empowered, adding that Local Government Act of 2021 will be abolished now, adding that we will ensure implementation on the agreement.
