SCBA President Ahsan Bhoon expressed reservations on Criminal Law Reforms proposed by Law Ministry

ISLAMABAD, Jan 27 (SABAH): Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Chaudhry Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon Advocate has said that so called amendments in “”Criminal Law Reforms” as proposed by Ministry of Law and justice, without the consultation of all stake holders in general and legal fraternity in particular, will pose even more grave dangerous to existing criminal justice system and will avert the true spirit of effective, just, fair and expeditious dispensation of justice, to public at large.

According to state issue by Secretary SCBA Waseem Mumtaz Malik, while categorically rejecting the proposed “Criminal Law Reforms” Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon lambasted that the Federal Minister of Law and Justice has once again shown his lack of knowledge towards law and has effectively demonstrated his inability as well as the incapability of his team. He said that there is no doubt that law reforms are indeed necessary for the betterment of the overall spectrum of the criminal justice system but unilateral and capricious approach towards such sensitive matters, will only add fuel to fire.

He stressed that consultative process should always be given priority in such matter of great public and judicial importance, as such, the “Law Ministry” should have invited the “input” of legal fraternity so as to reach more efficient, resourceful and inexpensive laws. However, the proposed amendments are mere eye-wash and cosmetic work that will not serve the required objectives.

Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon further expressed his reservations that according to his knowledge, even the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice were also not consulted on said “Criminal Law Reforms/Amendments”, which is highly condemnable.
