Govt concerned about problems being faced by nation due to inflation: PM


ATTOCK, Nov 05 (SABAH): The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has termed coronavirus pandemic as biggest reason behind increasing inflation in the country.

Addressing to the participants of a public rally in Attock on Friday, the PM Khan said oil prices have increased in recent three months. We are trying hard to save the people from inflation and provide relief to them, he assured.

PM Imran said that two families have weakened the country at economic level. the hike in price of sugar is due to the hoarders and closure of three sugar mills, he stated.

Earlier, talking to the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Attock, Imran Khas said that to control inflation and reduce the financial burden on poor, the government itself was bearing a deficit of Rs 450 billion. He said the government had taken unprecedented relief measures for underprivileged segments through several socio-welfare initiatives.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid, Member National Assembly Major (retd) Tahir Sadiq, members of Punjab Assembly Syed Yawar Bukhari, Malik Muhammad Anwar, Jamshed Altaf and the PTI leadership of Attock chapter attended the meeting.

The prime minister said at the time his government assumed power, the country’s total financial deficit was $20 billion, which was significantly brought down with utmost efforts.

He mentioned that as the country’s economy heavily depended on imports, international inflation put a big impact on the local price hike.

Imran Khan said his government successfully ensure economic stability during the pandemic when the world faced a financial crisis. He said the government was fully cognizant of the problems faced by the poor and was committed to extending them relief at every level.

He said the health card would soon be launched in the entire Punjab which will help the poor families benefit from the quality medical facilities.

Imran Khan urged the local leadership of PTI to work towards the welfare of the poor and needy.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan arrived in Attock and performed the groundbreaking of state of the art mother and child hospital.

The hospital will provide quality healthcare facilities to two million residents, particularly women, of the Attock district and in the suburbs. The Punjab government will complete the 200-bed hospital equipped with modern facilities in two years at a total cost of Rs 5.3 billion.

The federal government has already released Rs 2.66 billion to Punjab for the project.
