Imran Khan renews his offer for talks in fresh message from jail

ATTOCK, Sep 2 (SABAH): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is ready to hold talks with all political groups and state institutions, the party’s incarcerated chairman Imran Khan said in a message from Attock Jail on Saturday.

The former prime minister’s legal team, while talking to a group of reporters outside the jail, conveyed his reconciliatory message.

“The country cannot progress, unless there’s political stability,” he was quoted as having said by Barrister Shoaib Shaheen, who was part of the legal team that met the PTI chief.

According to the former premier, the barrister said, there was no respect left for the country’s judiciary. “The PTI chief has clarified that he has not agreed on any deal and he rejects the same.”

Shaheen said that the former premier was adamant in saying that he wouldn’t get off the right path he was on. “My political struggle and sacrifice is for this nation.”

“Only those having assets and properties out of Pakistan are the true beneficiaries of the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee,” the barrister further said, citing the PTI chairman.

Talking to the media, Barrister Gohar said that the PTI chief wanted his message delivered that he was ready to talk to all political groups and state institutions but only about elections.

Imran criticized for hiring Salman Rushdie’s lawyer

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has appointed Salman Rushdie’s lawyer as his lawyer which has been criticized across the length and breadth of the country.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has hired British barrister Geoffrey Ronald Robertson to represent him in international courts in cases related to “unlawful detention and human rights abuses,” the party said on Saturday as it quote-retweeted a statement from the British law firm.

However, PTI’s official handle PTI official deleted the quote-retweet when PMLN leader Attaullah Tarar and others claimed the move by Khan meant the party had moved international courts against the state of Pakistan. Some social media users took screenshots of the tweet before it was deleted.

“PTI Chairman, Former Prime Minister Imran Khan PTI has appointed the eminent Human Rights Barrister Geoffrey Robertson KC of Doughty Street Chambers to advise and represent him in international courts in relation to unlawful detention and human rights abuses,” the party account posted on X.

As per media reports, Jeffrey Robertson had advocated Salman Rushdie. Jeffrey Robertson says he had given Rushdie shelter in his house.
