ISLAMABAD, August 27 (SABAH): Senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has said that during the 15-months tenure of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government Rs 500 billion electricity was stolen. He said that during 2022 the 189000 employees of the government institutions linked with the

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) used Rs 8.19 billion free of cost electricity. He said that this is suppression, severe kind of mismanagement and should immediately be stopped.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan expressed these views through a statement issued on Twitter on Sunday. He revealed, “According to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the government employees used 344.6 million units of free of cost electricity within one year. In the offence of stealing or facilitating the stealing of electricity, the government took action against 743 employees and officers of 10 government Discos of whom maximum officials i.e., 422 belong to Hyderabad Electric Supply Company; 124 Multan Electric Supply Company (MESC); 118 Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESC), 44 Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), 12 TESCO and SEPCO while 11 belong to Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).”

He added, “By and large the institutions associated with the division of electricity incurred losses of Rs 59-122 billion during the fiscal year 2021-22. These institutions sent bills amounting to 787-2686 billion wherein Rs 97-1695 billion could not be received.”
