Pakistan’s interest lies in holding early elections: Sirajul Haq

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that we want implementation of the Constitution, adding that said Pakistan’s interest lies in holding early elections and no delaying tactics should be used.

Sirajul Haq expressed these views during in an interview with a private TV channel. He further said that people of Pakistan expect the caretaker prime minister to fulfill his duties handed over to him by the Constitution of the country.

“If new delimitations are going to be carried out then the elections should also be held as early as possible. This work could be completed ahead of March,” Emir Jamaat-e-Islami remarked.

Sirajul Haq maintained, “Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has not developed any consensus or coalition with any political party. We would contest elections on our own symbol as well as flag. We are making preparations for the elections. Jamaat-e-Islami is the only alternate and choice available with the people of Pakistan.”

He said it was a good omen that interim prime minister has been appointed as in this way a democratic process got accomplished as well as requirements of the Constitution were fulfilled. “Another good thing is that the prime minister and the leader of opposition agreed on a single name,” he noted.

He said that Anwaarul Haq Kakar worked with him in the Senate and added he (Kakar) is a positive person. “We express good wishes for him. The country is facing major issues while the biggest test for the prime minister is holding of free, fair and transparent elections. The next step is of formation of his Cabinet. We want his success in the next phase so that confidence of the masses could be restored,” he added.

Sirajul Haq remarked meeting of Council of Common Interests (CII) was called while using delaying tactics by the government of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) which was not taken as a good gesture by the countrymen. “If they would have been sincere they would have immediately called the CII meeting after Digital Census; however they wasted time of the nation. The previous assembly was the most unsuccessful assembly” he added.
