NAB is an obstacle in smooth running of govt system: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD, July 19 (SABAH): Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has urged all the stakeholders to jointly work for dealing with the situation being faced by the country at present and termed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) an obstacle in the smooth running of government system.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed these views during in an interview with a private TV channel. He further deplored that they were following a black and a faulty law since last 25 years, saying NAB’s law was only being implemented against the politicians.

The former prime minister further said that due to NAB, no government officer properly undertakes his/her duties while the cabinet hesitates in making decisions that NAB will investigate it. “Until and unless there is NAB in the country, no officer is supposed to do his work properly,” he added.

He said that former president General (retd) Pervaiz Musharraf had established NAB to control the politics and even today the purpose is the same. “I’m of the personal view that whatever happened on May 9 is unpardonable and unbearable. If those who involved were not held accountable then it would be tantamount to observe negligence from the government side,” he added.

The ex-premier also hinted at staying away from contesting the next elections, saying if the elections were objectiveless then there is no benefit of participating into them.

“It is my personal assessment that currently politics won’t resolve national issues. This reality seems to me, at least my contesting election won’t bring any solution,” PML-N leader said. “What I will do by contesting election, in absence of a thinking to resolve the national problems,” he questioned.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that no party can be fragmented, such experiments in the past were resulted in failure.” We must learn lesson from the past experiments,” he said.
