Sirajul Haq holds PTI responsible for PDM government’s ‘one-wheeling
LAHORE, June 27: Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq has held the PTI responsible for the PDM government’s ‘one-wheeling.’
In a statement from Mansoorah on Tuesday, Sirajul Haq said the PTI dissolved two provincial assemblies and its MNAs resigned from the national assemblies, leaving the ground open for the government.
The incumbent government, he added, was the continuation of the PTI rule. “There is no different in the policies of the ruling parties. They are the protectors of the status quo,” he remarked.
Unfortunately, he said, the politics in the country became a game of wealth and protection of self-interest. The so-called main parties, he added, was desperately looking towards the establishment for support and made decisions in closed rooms, keeping the people, the real stakeholders, in darkness.
Expressing concern that the elections could face indefinite delay if they were not held in 2023, he warned the politicians that they would then only be able to contest the “local body election.”
Therefore, he said, the political stakeholders had still an opportunity to sit together and hold a dialogue to strengthen democracy. Free and fair elections, he said, were the only way forward to put the country on track. The election commission, he said, should also take the political parties into confidence to devise a mechanism for transparent elections. The credibility of the electoral watchdog came under question particularly after the Karachi local government polls, he said. The role of the institutions, he said, should strictly be apolitical.
Later, he presided over a meeting of the Jamaat-e-Islami manifesto committee and was briefed about the various aspects of the election manifesto by the members. He vowed the Jamaat-e-Islami would ensure implementation of manifesto after coming into power.
Sirajul Haq said the Jamaat-e-Islami manifesto guaranteed the transforming of Pakistan into Islamic welfare state. He said the Jamaat-e-Islami unveiled its manifesto before any other political party.
