Failure of holding transparent elections in Karachi put question mark before ECP’s capacity of conducting election across country: Sirajul Haq

LAHORE, June 14 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that failure of holding free, fair and transparent elections in the port city of Karachi has put question mark before Election Commission of Pakistan’s capacity of conducting election across the country.

While addressing the central training session at Mansoorah on Wednesday, Sirajul Haq said that mayor election was going to be held in Karachi today (Thursday) but on other side, the elected local bodies’ representatives were being abducted and added it is responsibility of the Election Commission to get the chairmen free from the clutches of police commandoes so that they could cast their vote freely.

“Even after the passage of half of the century, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was addicted to oppression, abduction of political leaders and occupying through fraudulent means. The government of Sindh misused the state’s machinery and resources,” he said.

He furthered, “I want to make clear that dacoity of the government of Sindh and PPP on the mandate of the city will not prove good for themselves as well. Law, justice and democracy have become mockery in the country.”

During his telephonic conversation with Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh Muhammad Hussain Mehnti, Sirajul Haq asked about the latest situation of hurricane in the province and issued directions to workers of Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan to be ready to tackle any emergency. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami has always served the nation during all testing times which was also acknowledged at the international level. He also prayed Allah Almighty to safeguard the nation from further inflictions.

Sirajul Haq said that the rulers have left the nation in the lurch and added millions of people affected from destructions of recent floods but the government of Pakistan didn’t provide them any visible relief. “All the government’s promises were forgotten and no one knows where international aid was consumed,” he deplored.

Emir Jamaat-e-Islami demanded of the government to evacuate the masses and their luggage as well as cattle from the border coastal areas. He said that rulers’ credibility in the eyes of masses has come to an end.

During his conversation with Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, Sirajul Haq assured Jamaat-e-Islami’s full support in release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from the US prison and added it was doing efforts for her release since day one. He added they took up this issue in assemblies and at all other forums.
