When all tactics of Imran Khan failed, a new judicial establishment has stepped in to save him: Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE, May 01 (SABAH): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and Party’s Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that nobody had the right to tap anyone’s private conversation but clarified that a discussion during which the “country’s fate” was decided did not qualify as a private conversation.

Maryam Nawaz expressed these views while speaking about a series of audio clips, purportedly featuring the conversation of relatives of former and sitting judges of the top judiciary, at a workers’ convention in Lahore on the occasion of International Labour Day.

When these audio clips surfaced, Maryam said, an objection was raised over tapping an individual’s private conversation.

“I am in complete favour of no one having the right to tap anyone’s private conversation. But this is not a private conversation — a conversation in which decisions regarding the country’s fate are taken is not a private conversation,” she added.

Specifically referring to the audio clip purportedly featuring the mother-in-law of an SC judge and Khawaja Tariq A. Rahim’s wife, she said, “They were not discussing the recipe for gajar ka halwa [carrot pudding]. Instead, they were detailing a conspiracy [to] bring Imran [Khan] back to power.

“And since you don’t have any answer for these audio clips and big revelations made in them, you are now questioning why the recordings were released. “But you will have to answer to the nation.”

Earlier in her address, Maryam Nawaz railed against PTI Chairman Imran Khan, labeling him as a “terrorist” and a “hurdle in the way of the country’s development”.

Decrying the country’s worsening economy, she said that it was not just Imran, but an “entire gang” led by the PTI chief that was responsible for the dire situation the country was facing today.

This “gang”, she alleged, included the “most corrupt personalities of Pakistan”, naming retired army officials and former and sitting judges as its members.

Maryam also spoke about Imran’s long march and Jail Bharo Tehreek following his ouster as the prime minister, alleging that the PTI chief had “conspired” to dissolve the assemblies and stop the appointment of the new army chief.

“But when all of these tactics failed, a new judicial establishment — with some new and some old faces — has stepped in to save him,” she claimed, adding that it was an “evil nexus”.

Continuing her tirade, the PML-N leader further alleged that the PTI wanted elections in time for their “facilitators in the Supreme Court” to be able to help them win the contest.

Maryam Nawaz said that Imran Khan should stop plotting, the conditions of the labourers would improve.

Maryam Nawaz said she had no idea that the labour wing of PML-N was so active. “Glad to see, our workers are the backbone of the country”. She said she wanted the minimum wage of workers to be raised to Rs40,000.

Maryam Nawaz said she will convey to the Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Isahq Dar and the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif that the minimum wages should be Rs40,000 per month. Despite the difficult and tough economic conditions, the Prime Minister had raised monthly wage to Rs 25,000.

Maryam said in 2017 Chapati (Roti) was selling at Rs2 and today its price is Rs25. She said children of labourers used to eat Chapati (Roti) to their fill. Today, labourers have key role in most of the development in the country but they are not getting bread.

Maryam criticised the former prime minister and said that one person was hindering the development of this country and his name was Imran Khan. She said once the dollar was worth 100 rupees. From 2013 to 2017, the price of flour was not allowed to increase from 35 rupees. Nawaz Sharif used to say let the workers of this country eat to their fill.

Maryam Nawaz said that who called Nawaz Sharif thief, his son also surfaced as thief, adding that Saqib Nisar should tell that if he secured Rs 12 million for one ticket then how much money would have taken for issuing verdict against Nawaz Sharif in Panama case. She said that Nawaz Sharif is soon returning back to Pakistan and the journey of progress which was disconnected in 2017 would be restarted in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. She said that the parliament will ensure implementation of its verdict; if the constitution of country is supreme then the parliament is also supreme.
