Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan distributes more than 200 food packages among members of transgender community
LAHORE, April 11 (SABAH): Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan while maintaining its tradition of previous years is also distributing food package among the needy individuals particularly belonging to lower middle classes of the society during the ongoing month of Ramazan across the lengths and breadths of the country. Food package was being given to the downtrodden segments of the society like transgender community.
In the Kot Lakhpat area of Lahore, more than 200 food packages were distributed among the members of transgender community. In connection with this a ceremony was held. Secretary General Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Syed Waqas Jafri, Senior Manager Media Relations Shoaib Hashmi and head of transgender community Sonia Naaz and a large number of members of transgender community participated were present on this occasion.
Addressing on the occasion, Syed Waqas Jafri said that transgenders were the sensitive segment of the society trapped in numerous problems at present and continued that dealing with them in respectable way while keeping in view their self-respect lies among their rights. He added that Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan was working for the welfare of the transgender community, saying it is going to introduce a skill development and self-employment scheme for the community.
He further said that Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan during this year was distributing rations among the 200,000 needy and deserving individuals in the floods affected areas across the country. In the ration package, flour, rice, oil, sugar, tea, dates, pulse and other edibles included, he said, and this has been ongoing since beginning of Ramazan.
Syed Waqas Jafri noted that inflation affected all the society particularly poor and lower middles classes of the society and the motif of distribution of food package was to ensure their participation in the pleasures of the month while lessening their burden so they could observe the fasts too.
He maintained that Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan was also organizing sehr(dawn meal) and aftaar (evening meals) during this month across the length and breadth of the country whereas it has also installed sasta tandoor where the people belonging to poor segments of the society was being provided with bread on half price.
