Imran Khan to announce a massive relief package to provide relief to people during his address to the nation today: Fawad
ISLAMABAD, Nov 02 (SABAH): Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce a massive relief package to provide relief to the people during his address to the nation tomorrow (Wednesday).
This was announced by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, while briefing media in Islamabad on Tuesday about the decisions taken at the cabinet meeting, which held in the federal capital with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.
“Prime minister will address nation tomorrow (Wednesday) to take them into confidence over the prevailing economic situation in the country,” he said. As part of the PTI’ government poverty alleviation Ehsaas programme, the premier will unveil a “mega relief package”, which will provide benefits to around 53 per cent of the country’s population, he elaborated further.
While responding to a question, Fawad criticised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in Sindh, saying they need to improve their governance and administrative issues instead of holding rallies against the federal government.
The information minister blamed the Sindh government for the increase in flour prices, saying the provincial government delayed the release of wheat.
“Next time I will ask Bilawal [PPP chairman] to stage protest outside the CM House in Karachi so that it could be ascertained as to who is responsible for inflation,” he added.
Speaking on the issue of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Fawad said details of agreement with the religious party had not been presented in the federal cabinet as yet.
“Details of agreement with TLP were not discussed in the cabinet meeting and only Shah Mahmood Qureshi [foreign minister] can comment on this matter,” he said.
He said the cabinet approved promulgation of Ehsaas Ordinance 2021 to help the deserving families in an effective way. The Information Minister said the cabinet also discussed prices of essential items in Pakistan and the region and it was observed that prices of essential goods are lower in Pakistan than in the regional countries like India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
He said it is also a fact that poverty ratio in these countries is much higher as compared to Pakistan. Fawad Chaudhry said the government’s coalition partners have generously extended their support for the electoral reforms agenda. He said the cabinet barred the government from acquisition of land for housing societies.
He said a committee, comprising the Establishment, Finance and the Housing ministries, will be constituted to review the existing policy for allotment of plots to government employees. The Minister said the cabinet rejected a summary to withdraw duty on import of vintage cars.
