Report about murder of Pakistani journalist Zubair Mujahid presented during proceedings of The Peoples Tribunal, in The Hague


THE HAGUE, Nov 02 (SABAH): The International Court established in Netherlands’ city “The Hague”, against the murders of the journalists has started its hearing on Tuesday. The court will take action against the governments instead of individuals.

The 2nd November is observed as International Day by United Nations for not punishing the killers of the journalists. The international court has been named as “The Peoples Tribunal”. The prominent legal experts of the world and journalists are included in this court.

The leading press freedom organisations Free Press Unlimited (FPU), Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), requested the Permanent People’s Tribunal to convene a People’s Tribunal on the Murder of Journalists.

Prominent Pakistani journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir is also attending the proceedings of the tribunal.

Hamid Mir in a tweet on Tuesday said that the report about the murder of Pakistani journalist Zubair Mujahid was presented during the proceedings of the tribunal. Pakistani journalist Zubair Mujahid was assassinated on November 23, 2007 in Mirpurkhas district of Sindh. Justice denied to him even after 14 years. Hamid Mir also shared the statement of the Baroness Helena Kennedy, Leading British lawyer in civil liberties, human rights; Chair Justice; member House of Lords, Principal Mansfield Col, Oxford; Feminist and social reformer, in which she has criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for shutting down internet in Kashmir since 2019 again and again. She condemned Taliban policies against Media Freedom in Afghanistan during the opening of the Peoples Tribunal at The Hague on Tuesday.

Helena Kennedy said that we need a standing investigative task force to launch thorough and deep investigations of journalist murder. She said that People Tribunal and we need to amplify the voice of journalists.

Meanwhile during the proceedings, the Prosecutor of Peoples Trubunal for the murder of journalist, read few lines of last column written by Sri Lankan journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga. He predicted about his murder and now prosecution will bring evidence against the killer who is very powerful.
