Supreme Court sprung into action as legislature, ECP failed in discharging their functions: Sirajul Haq

CHARSADDA, Feb 28 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that nation was seeing the Supreme Court of Pakistan as legislature as well as Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have failed in discharging their functions with regards to elections and the court sprung into action. 

Sirajul Haq expressed these views while addressing a press conference in Charsadda on Tuesday. He further said the apex court has taken suo motu notice and added Jamaat-e-Islami was of the view that no single political party or institution could resolve the issues the country was confronting with.

He said there was need of holding transparent elections of national as well as provincial assemblies spontaneously so that the nation could elect representatives of its choice for next five years, suggesting the Supreme Court to convince all the stakeholders on general national elections in the country instead of phase-wise polls.

Emir Jamaat-e-Islami said that ruling parties had held the courts hostage and wanted verdicts of their own choice but now the masses inclined towards the supremacy of law instead of kingdom of families and individuals. He said infighting among Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was not for the sake of eradicating out inflation, unemployment and chaos from the country but only for coming into power and acting on the lines of the United States.

Today, Sirajul Haq said the nation has lost their confidence in the political parties as well as the institutions, adding the nation was under the wave of inflation and poor law and order situation. All and sundry was worried from Chitral to Karachi as petrol prices were increased up to Rs 57, he added.

He noted the pulses, vegetables, sugar and flour were witnessing sky-rocketing prices despite the fact Pakistan is an agriculture country.’ So much so taxes amounting to Rs 179 billion were further imposed on the poor Pakistanis, he added, saying the Prime Minister was putting also burden received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the poor masses.

Sirajul Haq disclosed that PPP wanted to bring its mayor for Karachi but Jamaat-e-Islami will not allow occurring this and continued if the provincial government tried to mould the elections outcomes the Karachities alongside Jamaat-e-Islami will show up their resilience. He furthered the EC was not completing local bodies of Karachi under the pressure of PPP.
