Solution to country’s problems lies in holding of free, fair & transparent polls: Sirajul Haq

ISLAMABAD, Feb 27 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that solution to the country’s problems lies in holding free, fair and transparent elections.

Sirajul Haq expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Islamabad on Monday. Secretary General JI Ameerul Azim, Naib Emir JI Mian Muhammad Aslam, Emir JI Islamabad Nasrullah Randhawa and other JI leaders were also present on the occasion. He said if the apex court was serious in playing its part in elections related issues it should get all the stakeholders on the same page for reaching the same date for holding of general elections across the country.

Once again reiterating his stance, he said that solution to the country’s issues lies in holding of free, fair and transparent elections, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami has always put efforts in this respect.  “We will go in elections under our own flag and electoral symbol scale ‘tarazoo,’ he revealed.

He furthered, “We forged alliances with all the parties but concluded a point that all of them consider the politics as a game and business as if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sees politics as game; Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) takes it like a business while contrary to all Jamaat-e-Islami terms it service and a kind of worship. 

“Either there is the government of PDM, PPP or PTI – until and unless the presence of corrupt aristocracy the masses could not breathe in the environment of peace and tranquility. These people imposed further taxes amounting to Rs 170 billion on the underprivileged segments of the society but they were not ready at all to lessen their own perks and privileges. There were not inclined to shrink the size of Cabinet,” he said.

Taking jibe at foreign minister, Sirajul Haq said the Minster has visited even such a country whose name was not unknown by many of us but he didn’t pay a visit to Khairpur where there were private jails and abductions for ransom were common. Only in the Kacha area, he said 46 subjugated Pakistanis were detained by cruel landlords and notables, and added most of them belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who went to the coastal city of Karachi for earning their bread and butter but were kidnapped there.

Sirajul Haq said that the central government has completing failed in discharging its assignments and continued since the establishment of the government comprising 14 parties the country has been on the downward trajectory, saying there was no palpable difference between the former government of PTI and the current unity government.

Possessions worth billions of rupees were owned by well-know politicians, retired judges, generals and bureaucrats but they have never been held accountable, he added.
