Ahsan Iqbal urges probe of ex-CM Punjab Parvez Elahi’s alleged audio leak


ISLAMABAD, Fe 17 (SABAH): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiative Professor Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry has said that former prime minister and Chairman PTI Imran Khan has been consistently putting aside courts orders and he has never been held accountable for his acts, portraying match-fixing like situation.

Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal said that audio tape of former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was not ordinary and it raises question marks on the justice system which should be investigated.  He said the rule of law is the backbone of society and added that an independent judiciary is essential to the rule of law.

Ahsan Iqbal also demanded for investigation of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s alleged audio leak. He also said that Imran Khan made false cases against PML-N leadership who had to wait for months for the date of the hearing. He said today the judiciary is independent compared to the past.

He said in the alleged audio tape, Elahi was found trying to match fixing with a judge of superior court which puts question marks on the credibility of the judiciary as well.

The minister further said that he will demand of Pakistan Bar Council to investigate this issue and the audio tape was found to be spurious then those found involved in damaging the judiciary should be punished. He said if the audio tape was found to be true then it puts question marks on the credibility of the courts. He alleged all this was carried out by Imran Khan and audio leaks issue needs to be thoroughly investigated.

The PML-N leader said that the former government of PTI was responsible for current poor state of economy of the country and added that without obeying law the country would be converted into a forest.

He said that the country could not afford the issues anymore particularly court matters and added all needs to play their responsible role. He further said that CPEC was very significant project of the county and recalled during the previous tenure of PML-N investment was coming to the country. He alleged that that Imran was disrespecting the courts.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal further said that he had met a Chinese business who had made his mind to invest in Pakistan a few months ago for which he had already selected a suitable place but finally declined to do so. When asked, he told Ahsan Iqbal that in Pakistan the prime ministers were changed in a while which does not suit to his business.
