There were some deficiencies in the new NAB law which was being evaluated: CJP Umar Ata Bandial

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (SABAH): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial has remarked did all the cases got terminated after they came out of jurisdiction of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He said there were some deficiencies in the new NAB law which was being evaluated.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Mrs. Justice Ayesha A. Malik and Justice Athar Minallah conducted hearing of application of NAB for repealing bail of an accused of corruption Nawab Khan. NAB’s prosecutor argued before the bench that case of Rs 230 million of corruption has fallen out of the jurisdiction of NAB due to which application in this regard has become ineffective.

To this, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial asked if definition of corruption applies only to Rs 230 million but not to Rs 500 million and further inquired did cases got discharged which now do not fall under the jurisdiction of NAB? To this, NAB’s prosecutor argued that it was not so that the Bureau was not accepting the cases but the courts were doing this.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial further inquired had there not been written in the new NAB law the place where these cases were supposed to be sent.  He furthered there were some deficiencies in the new NAB law which was being observed. To this, the Supreme Court discharged the aforementioned application.
