Minus-one approach to knock Imran out of political arena won’t be successful: President Alvi

LAHORE , Jan 26 (SABAH): President Dr. Arif Alvi said on Thursday that a minus-one formula to knock Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan out of the political contest would not be successful.

Speaking to media persons at the Governor House, President Alvi said he tried to play a mediatory role between the opposition and the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) multiple times but there was complete silence from the government side and they did not respond to his invitation.

As for the PTI’s dire demand to hold snap elections across the country, the President said that former premier Khan had concerns about Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) intent over holding the elections, adding that opposition and government should sit together to discuss election issues.

He further said, “Minus-one” approach to knock Imran Khan out of the political arena won’t be successful because there would be strong public reaction over it.”

Commenting on PTI stalwart Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest in the sedition case, he said: “I am ashamed the way Fawad has been arrested and treated.”

Alvi urged the nation to adopt modern trends of global community for development of the country.

Meanwhile, addressing the 12th convocation ceremony of Virtual University in Lahore, he said education and training has more impact on character building as compared to knowledge. He said twenty million children are still out of schools in the country. Arif Alvi said no country can progress without education.
