Karachi New mayor to be from Jamaat-e-Islami: Naeemur Rehman


KARACHI, Jan 26 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami will give mayor to the coastal city of Karachi, saying were ready to work together with all the parties for the city development.

Addressing a presser at Karachi on Thursday, Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was of the view that the government had no interest in holding local bodies’ elections which resulted into low turnout, stressing upon the need of bringing reforms in the country’s election process.

He furthered if the same situation that they had to face in the local bodies’ polls in the port city of Karachi reoccurs in the forthcoming general elections it will give birth to suspicions about its transparency.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader noted they staged a protest regarding six seats which is why the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took notice of this issue. He added they had to put hectic efforts for getting form-11.

Delay in elections results hinted at the fact that the government changed them [results]. He added that during the polling process; rigging was also committed. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami setup a sell regarding rigging in the LG polls and they were ready to assist on the matter to any party in this regard.
