Imported govt can never arrest me: Imran Khan

LAHORE, Jan 25 (SABAH): Former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the ruling coalition can never arrest him as their own cases were being heard in court.

Imran Khan made these remarks while speaking to the PTI’s senior leadership hours after the party’s official Twitter handle revealed that there may be expected arrest of Imran khan.

“Their own cases are in court so the imported government can never arrest me,” the PTI chief told party leaders. He went on to double down on the criticism aimed at the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja.

He further said, “Fawad’s arrest on his apt description of the CEC leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind that Pakistan has become a banana republic devoid of rule of law.” “We must stand up for our fundamental rights now to save Pakistan’s drift towards a point of no return,” he added.

The former ruling party’s workers gathered outside Zaman Park, the residence of the PTI chairperson, in the wee hours of Wednesday to protect the former premier after reported intelligence that he may be arrested in the night.

A video posted by PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, hours before the Islamabad Kohsar police arrested him on sedition charges, showed several party supporters and workers outside Zaman Park in the early hours of the Wednesday morning. The crowd could be heard chanting slogans of unity with Imran.

PTI leader Zubair Niazi feared Imran’s arrest, while Musrat Jamshed Cheema appealed to workers to reach Imran’s residence for his safety.

Fawad Chaudhary and Hamad Azhar had reached Zaman Park Lahore along with their workers after receiving the information.
