APS attack case: SC grants three weeks time for submission of implementation report

ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (SABAH): Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday has extended time for submission of implementation report on Army Public School (APS) attack.

The court has accepted the plea of federal government and extended the time by three weeks.

According to a private TV channel sources, the proceedings will probably resume after winter vacations at court.

At the last hearing of the case the apex court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed had summoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and directed him to submit implementation report along with his signatures till 10th December.

However the Attorney General for Pakistan Barrister Khalid Jawed Khan filed the petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking time for the submission of the report signed by the prime minister. Attorney general requested the court the prime minister will meet the heirs of the martyred children in APS attack on the occasion of the anniversary of the attack on 16th December so the time may be granted for the submission of the implementation report.

The apex court has granted three weeks time to submit the implementation report regarding APS Peshawar terrorist attack.

It is worth mentioning here that on Dec 16, 2014, six Taliban terrorists stormed the school and martyred nearly 150 people, including more than 130 schoolchildren. The deadliest attack in Pakistan’s history and the carnage prompted the government to declare an all-out war against terrorist outfits.

In the wake of the attack, military courts were set up for trying terrorists under amendments made to the Constitution and the Army Act. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

The mastermind of the APS massacre, Umar Mansour, was killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan in 2017.

Pakistan army said that all six militants who were involved in the attack have been executed.

The military courts, established soon after the attack, awarded death sentences to 310 militants and 56 of them have been executed so far, said a statement issued by the Pak Army.
