KC-EU launches a move for immediate release of Kashmiri HR defender Khurram Parvez
BRUSSELS, Dec 09 (SABAH): Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) has launched a broader campaign for early release of famous Kashmiri human right defender Khurram Pervez who is in Indian custody in these days.
Addressing a roundtable held at European Press Club in Brussels a day before the day of human rights on Thursday, Chairman KC-EU Ali Raza Syed said, Khurram Parvez is a humble activist, an intellectual and a brave human rights activist acknowledged and respected by the international community of human rights defenders across the world.
The roundtable was also in attended by MEP Mr. Lars Patrick Berg, European human right activist, European intellectual and European Journalists.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed who recently wrote a letter to various European authorities asking them to pressurize Indian government for early release of Khurram Parvez,said, our move for early release of Khurram Parvez will be run in all 27 countries of European Union.
He said, detention of Kurram Pervez who is Program Manager of JKCCS and chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances, made sadness and anger in Jammu and Kashmir. Ali Raza Syed said, Khurram Parvez is internationally famous person due to his work on human rights and he received many awards including Reebok Human Rights awards in 2006 for his highly regarded work.
Ali Raza Syed continued that Khuram Parvez who always raised the issues of human rights of the people of Jamu and Kashmir witnessing lost of many lives, depriving the hundreds of the innocent people from their eyes through use of pallet guns by the Indian forces, arbitrary arrests, muzzling of media, imprisonment of literarily entire political class, disappearances of youth, discovery of unnamed mass graves, rapes, torture, harassment, and fake encounters of civilians. In fact, Khurram Pervez was tirelessly documenting all these violations. These days, he was busy preparing a report on the fake encounter of four young men in Hyderpura near Srinagar.
The overwhelming rejection of Indian act by international organizations has once again exposed real face of Indian claims of being the biggest democracy in the world. In fact, it is the biggest prison of the world.
It is important to mention that many international human rights organizations have condemned the arrest of Khurram Pervez in same words. For example, a joint condemnation has been issued by thesix international human rights organizations including; Front Line Defenders, International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), The international Commission of Jurists, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Similarly, Kerry Kennedy, President of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Organization said “I am deeply concerned that my dear friend Khurram Parvez has been in custody for over a week.
