PTI to move court against dissolution of Punjab Assmbly, delay in Islamabad LG polls

ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (SABAH): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Thursday announced that it has decided to approach the court against the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly and the delay in holding local body (LG) elections in Islamabad.

Talking to the media persons in Islamabad, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar said that the government was now openly started violating the Constitution and the law. “The dissolution of the Punjab Assembly and the stopping of the LG elections in Islamabad are both malicious practices and we will approach the court for both cases,” Asad Umar said.

The PTI leader said that the party’s Chairman Imran Khan held the biggest rallies in history, adding that people have understood that there can be no political competition with the former prime minister.

Asad Umar furthered that there are no differences between Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and the PTI chief and that PTI and PML-Q are political allies, however, he added that it is not necessary to agree on everything.

“Earlier they used to say that Imran Khan will not dissolve the assemblies, then they said that Elahi will not dissolve the Punjab assembly. Now they are creating speculation in Punjab by taking illegal steps,” added the PTI leader.

Asad Umar furthered that the government tried all tactics, politically and legally but all their tactics have failed. The comments by the PTI leader came as Punjab is in the midst of political turmoil.

On December 19, Governor Balighur Rehman directed Chief Minister  Pervaiz Elahi to seek a vote of confidence on December 21. However, Speaker Sibtain Khan said that the governor’s letter, asking the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence was against the assembly rules, as well as the Constitution.

The province descended into further turmoil as Governor Rehman rejected the ruling of Speaker Sibtain.
