Pakistan’s survival connected to democratic system; electoral reforms vital ahead of elections: Sirajul Haq


KARACHI, Dec 09 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has said that survival of Pakistan was connected to democratic system and electoral reforms were vital ahead of elections as uncertainty will prevail in their absence like the past. 

Addressing a presser on the occasion of his arrival at Idarah Noor-e- Haq on Friday, Sirajul Haq stressed upon all the parties to deliberate upon the electoral reforms as supremacy of law and Constitution and democratic stability were necessary for a prosperous and Islamic Pakistan. He suggested the government to ensure implementation on promises made with the people of Gwadar, saying country’s survival was linked to solution of Constitutional rights of people of Balochistan.

He said that the central and provincial governments did numerous promises with the people of Balochistan but none of them were materialized and warned this was a matter of serious concern among the masses and it appear in the form of unexpected reaction.

About the port city of Karachi, Emir JI said that Karachi is a jugular vein of Pakistan which needs an authoritative mayor for a local government for sorting out problems of the city, he said. He added infrastructure of the city was destroyed and the roads were damaged whereas streets and other places were full of garbage, putting the people at the hand of risks. 

Sirajul Haq said that local government polls were suspended in the city for three times and expressed his hope that Election Commission of Pakistan will ensure holding of LG polls on January 15. He said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) did not resolve hardships of Karachities and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also did nothing for the city.

He further said that ex-premier Imran Khan announced Rs 1.1 trillion package for the city but no one knows how much was spent at Karachi.

Since long no new hospital or educational institution was built in the city, Sirajul Haq added. According to an international survey, Balochistan was facing worst poverty level, he said, and added that the province has become a hub of issues as people were ill at ease in wake of prevailing law and order situation and unemployment which was why locals of Gwadar were forced to stage sit-in. He also demanded of the government to explain about its position on the funds came from the external world as how much it collected and how much it consumed.

Sirajul Haq noted the government along with its ministers was busy in its fights whereas over 35 million flood victims were left stranded as the government even did not build a single home for them. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan built homes for the people affected by heavy rains and floods, he added.

Naib Emir JI Pakistan Asadullah Bhutto, Emir JI Karachi Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Naib Emir JI Karachi Dr. Usama Razi and others were present on the occasion.
