Sirajul Haq calls for national dialogue to end the prevailing crisis

ISLAMABAD, Nov 07, (SABAH): Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq has called for national dialogue to end the prevailing crisis.

“Fight among the politicians brought martial laws in the past, we could no longer afford tragedies, mishaps and threat to already fragile democracy,” Sirajul Haq said while talking to journalists after addressing seminar titled “Recovery from Devastating Floods in Pakistan” at a local hotel here on Monday.

Ambassadors from different countries, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, former ambassador of Pakistan to India Abdul Basit Kahn and JI leaders including Liaqat Baloch, Ameerul Azim, Mian Muhammad Asalm, Abdul Rashid Turabi, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan President Muhammad Abdul Shakoor and others participated and addressed.  

Dialogue should be held among the political parties on three-point agenda that included end to the political role of establishment, supremacy of the constitution and electoral reforms, he said.

Addressing the sitting, he said the international community should join hand to fight against hunger and illiteracy. Developed world, he said, must recognize their responsibility towards the less privileged. He said the world had enough resources to feed its population, the real problem was unjust distribution of resources. He said the multinational companies made billions of dollars even during Covid without showing any sympathy toward poor. He said the companies earned huge profit with the sale of weapons which saw rapid increase every year even at a time when over 80 million people in the world were starving, having no food to eat.

Sirajul Haq said the flood affected more than 33 million people and the government showed lack of seriousness and preparation to cope with the crisis. The industrial states responsible for global warming should compensate flood losses of Pakistan, he said, adding the UN secretary general had already made appeal in this regard.

Sirajul Haq said the JI charity Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan made maximum efforts to provide relief to the victims of floods, engaging itself in full-fledged rehabilitation process. He said the JI ensured transparency in distribution of aid and it was evident from the fact that the nation trusted on it by donating billions of rupees for the affectees.
