New army chief to be appointed next month as per law & Constitution: Khawaja Asif


SIALKOT, Oct 22 (SABAH) Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has lauded the role of the Armed Forces getting Pakistan removed from the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), global anti-terror finance group.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif said this while talking to media persons at Sialkot on Saturday. He said that Pakistan’s removal from the FATF grey list was a great success for the country. He said that Pakistan Army had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the peace and stability of the country. About appointment of next army chief, the defence minister said it would be made during the next month as per the law and the Constitution.

Khawaja Asif said that the former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan used donated money for the cancer hospital for his political purposes. He said that no government representative can keep Toshakhana gifts and all the gifts Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received were being kept the State repository.

He claimed that differences have erupted in PTI after Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) verdict and everything will be clear in about two months. He further claimed that Chief Minister Punjab Parvez Elahi will not continue his support for Imran Khan in coming days and urged the PTI to ‘take good care’ of CM Punjab as he could switch sides.

Khawaja Asif said that general elections would be held on their scheduled time.
