Sirajul Haq terms disqualification of Imran Khan from ECP a lesson of history to the former prime minister

LAHORE, Oct 21 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq has termed the disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) a lesson of history to the former prime minister.

In a statement issued from Mansoorah on Friday, Sirajul Haq questioned the timing of the decision, saying why the electoral watchdog had been waiting for the federal government reference to implement laws.

He said if the ECP had to disqualify the PTI chief then why the latter had been allowed to contest the polls, wasting money from exchequer and time of the public. He said the ECP should have been acted against all those former rulers who took benefit from Toshakhana.

The JI Emir said the PTI had right to challenge the ECP verdict, suggesting the former ruling party and all other political parties to act wisely. Any emotional reaction without judging the consequences by either side of the political divide could put in danger the already fragile democracy in the country, he said, adding the national dialogue among the political parties was need of the hour to bring political stability.

Meanwhile, Sirajul Haq also spoke to the conference on “national challenges” at Mansoorah where he highlighted the need to utilise resources for public welfare and uplifting the poor. He said unjust distribution of wealth and resources and bad governance were the roots of all the problems. He said corruption plagued the society and interest based economy destroyed the economic stability. The ill advised policies of present and former governments bring the disaster which need years to be fixed, he said. Think Forum organised the event.
