General Qamar Javed Bajwa says he would not be seeking another extension in his tenure, which ends on November 29


ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (SABAH): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Friday he would not be seeking another extension in his tenure, which ends on November 29, asserting that the army had decided to distance itself from the country’s politics.

According to a private TV channel, General Qamar Javed Bajwa made these remarks while addressing a security workshop at National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad. According to journalists who attended the workshop, the army chief said the military had decided to remain “apolitical”. Army chief said that he will retire in next five weeks so he will talk while keeping many things in mind. Army chief stressed that now there will be no role of army in the politics of country, adding that he has done a lot of work on this matter in last six months and in times to come there will be no role of army in politics.

Army chief also talked about the economic stability and interests of the country.  

General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that he will not seek an extension and retire after five weeks, another private TV channel said while quoting unnamed sources. The COAS, according to the sources, said that the army will not play any role in politics.
