Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan announces rehabilitation & reconstruction plan for the flood affected areas


LAHORE, Oct 15 (SABAH):President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Muhammad Abdul Shakoor while announcing the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan for the flood affected areas has said that initially Rs 5 billion have been allocated for the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan. He said that it has been planned to provide assistance in construction of 10,000 houses in the flood affected areas. The rehabilitation work on the partially or completely damaged schools, mosques and seminaries will be done. Rs 0.5 million to Rs 1 million will be spent on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of schools, mosques and seminaries.

While addressing the briefing held regarding the ongoing relief activities of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan in flood affected areas and rehabilitation and reconstruction plan, Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that initially rehabilitation and reconstruction plan of 200 schools, 200 mosques and 200 seminaries have been prepared. He said that the farmers owning 5 acres of land will be given Rs 63,000 for provision of seeds, pesticides and fertilizers. He said that it has been planned to provide this package nearly to 5,000 farmers. He said that the orphan children present in the flood affected districts will be included in the Orphan Care Program of the Alkhidmat Foundation.

Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that looking after of 5 to 8 years old orphan children of the affected areas will be arranged. It is worth mentioning here that Alkhidmat Orphan Care Program is the permanent comprehensive project for looking after the orphan children, in which arrangements are made for education, health, food and upbringing facilities till reaching the age of adulthood.

Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that different clean drinking water projects will be completed in the flood affected areas, which include water filtration plants, community water pumps and other projects. He said that Rs 250 million have been allocated for these projects.

While briefing about the relief activities in the flood affected areas, Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that so far Alkhidmat Foundation has spent Rs 10 billion on relief activities in the flood affected areas.

While briefing about the health activities being provided in the flood affected areas, Chairman Alkhidmat Health Services Professor Dr. Hafeezur Rehman said that health services are being provided in the flood affected areas through medical camps, boat clinics, filed hospitals, mobile health units and mobile health vans. He said that so far 4,607,40 patients have benefited from the health services. He said that for the pregnant women “safe mother, safe family” program has been launched. He said that in this project, through leady doctor, the facilities of basic check up to pregnant women, ultrasound and registration process will be provided so that guidance could be provided to them till the time of delivery. He said that in affected areas, 15 health units (diagnostic lab and hospital) will be upgraded; meanwhile seven health units will also be sent.

Muhammad Abdul Shakoor while briefing about the ongoing relief activities in the flood affected areas said that so far Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has spent Rs 10 billion on relief activities in the flood affected areas. He said that 62,805 volunteers of Alkhidmat Foundation are active in the flood affected areas. He said that these volunteers through vehicles, ambulances and 43 motorboats rescued 60,000 people. He said that so far Alkhidmat Foundation has transported 831 trucks of relief goods to the flood affected areas.

He said that to provide the most important need of food to the flood affectees, 41 kitchens have been established in flood affected areas, from where food is transported to the flood affectees in packets. He said that 85,200 people are being provided two ready meals daily, adding that in areas where the flood affectees have facility of cooking they are being provided the food packages so that they could cook food of their own choice. He said that so far packages of tried ration have been provided to 182, 405 people.    

Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that so far 59,170 tents and tarpaulins have been provided to the flood affectees. He said that so far 1,202 medical camps have been organized in the flood affected areas. He said that 60 mobile medical vans are working in flood affected areas of Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.

Muhammad Abdul Shakoor said that so far for the provision of clean drinking water in the flood affected areas 28 mobile water filtration plants and 106 water tankers have been arranged. He said that every filtration plant has capacity to clean 2,000 liters water per hour. He said that clean drinking water is being provided to nearly 2,663,00 people daily.

On the occasion Senior Vice President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Syed Ahsan Ullah Waqas, Secretary General Shahid Iqabal, Vice President Khalid Waqas and other central and regional office-bearers were also present.
