Rumors about the death of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui baseless: Dr. Fowzia


KARACHI, Oct 14 (SABAH): The rumors about the death of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, the Pakistani woman scientist who is in a prison, are baseless. The purpose of this unconfirmed news is to down the moral of the nation. The foreign office should immediately tell the nation about the real facts, said a statement released from Aafia Movement media cell here Friday.

It said the telephonic contact of Aafia Siddiqui with her family has been cut off for last many years. It said we have no direct source for confirmation about this development. The government should inform the nation about life and health of Dr. Aafia.

It said previously such rumors about the death of Dr. Aafia were spread especially on social media to give a mental torture to Aafia family and to dampen the moral of Pakistani nation. It urged the nation to keep its moral high and stay united.

It said that Aafia supporters have announced to hold peaceful protests in Pakistan and USA and after this the spread of these rumors is not a strange thing. It said any person can open the website of US federal bureau of   prisons (http://www.bop.gov/inmateloc) and write inmate number of Aafia (90279054) to get online information about Dr Aafia.

However, Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui said that the purpose of Aafia Movement is to restore the honor and respect of common Pakistani citizens, besides securing early release of Aafia. She appealed to the nation to keep united and avoid spreading false news and rumors.
